Richard Interview

I had the honour of presenting and interviewing Richard live on stage at Cannock Prince of Wales Theatre shortly before his death.

Richard almost never appeared live on stage so that night was very, very special.

It was a packed audience and Richard was superb - we surprised him at the end of the interview with a stuffed ferret being pulled across the stage from behind him. I have some treasures momentos Richard gave me and incredible memories.

Miss you Richard - God Bless and keep you. Maybe one day we can do the interview again in Heaven.

Keith.

A rose once grew
where all could see,
sheltered beside
a garden wall,
And as the days passed
swiftly by,
it spread its branches, straight and tall...

One day, a beam of light
shone through
a crevice that had
opened wide ~
The rose bent gently
toward its warmth
then passed beyond
to the other side

Now, you who deeply
feel its loss,
be comforted ~ the rose blooms there ~
its beauty even greater now,
nurtured by
God's own loving care.

A very nice man

I met Richard only once on the train heading north, and enjoyed a little gentle ribbing about a slight matter with a ferret many years earlier, and Richard took in in good part. A true gentleman.

Fond memories

I was in Sydney when I heard that Richard has passed away suddenly. Everyone used to say he reminded them of my Dad - daft jokes that everybody rolls their eyes at but secretly find hilarious!!! I had a toast to Richard in a bar in Sydney with my UK friends and we all had a tear in our eye - oh, the student days - cuppa tea and Countdown! I have just returned back to Sheffield after 8 years in Oz. I went to the library and saw the book Kathryn wrote - I read it in just over a day. It impelled me to look for a tribute site as it moved me so much. What a love story! I still have not been able to bring myself to watch Countdown yet. I accidentally put it on but could not watch it - no offence to Des! Such a shame - for me - it was the one thing I missed on TV living in Oz. Bless you Richard - THANKS for being a superstar!

Missing Richard Whiteley

I have watched Countdown since the day it first started - on the day Channel 4 started.
I loved Richard Whiteley and was so sad when he died.
I still watch Countdown because I enjoy the format - I enjoy words and number puzzles.
Although I still watch, it is not the same. Nowhere near the same.
Richard was 'Mr. Countdown' and is very sorely missed.
Rest in peace dear Richard.
